OKAY?
Directed by: Carrie Meyer Schrader
Runtime: 14 minutes

Kayla is not ready to admit that her mother is dying. When her brother insists it is time to let their mother go and take her off life support, Kayla is an adamant “NO.”

But then she meets V, a non-binary, trans patient who walks with a cane and is only able to say one word: “Okay”.

Kayla decides to buck the system and spends the rest of the day taking V through HIV-specific stretches and rehabilitating their hip. They bond in affirming vulnerability.

As Kayla helps V reclaim their spirit, she is finally able to surrender to her own. When V waltzes out of the clinic barely using their cane, Kayla faces her brother and says the one word she couldn’t – “Okay. ”
