Over forty years ago The Cherry Bowl began as a small community event to help forge better relations between the bevy of queer beach revelers and the local policing authority. Since then it has become a massively popular day of competition and community building.
“Let’s Go Grovettes” takes a look back at how the game began and how it blossomed into an annual gathering of Grove locals and visiting spectators from Long Island.
Through interviews with The Cherry Bowl founders, longtime players, coaches, cheerleaders and police, we discover the quirky traditions and athletic precision that make this volleyball game such a loved attraction to so many.
